The plagiarism rate presented in the test results is a relative score, and each school or institution has a different standard for determining plagiarism, and it is difficult to answer 'less than a few percent is safe and more than a few percent is plagiarism'.
Rather than putting a meaning on the Similarity rate, check the test results in detail and carefully review the same/suspicious text area with other documents to see if there are areas that could be mistaken for plagiarism, and whether there are parts that are not marked, and if there are Copy & Paste areas. Please check and correct it.
Please check if the uploaded file (inspection document) is one of the following and re-inspect it.
1. Damaged file
If the file is damaged, the inspection might fail. In this case, re-edit the document and re-inspect it to an undamaged file.
2. If the document has a password set
If a password is set in a document, release the password and re-check it. If a password is set through a document security program (DRM etc.), convert it to a PDF file and re-inspect it.
3. If there is no text in the inspection document and only the image is inserted
Files with only images inserted cannot be inspected, so please re-inspect the files with text files. The Copy Killer extracts text and performs plagiarism checks, so image PDF files with text can be inspected.
With some appropriate actions, you will be able to get more accurate scores.
1. Have you checked your Quotation/Citation style?
(1) Copy Killer recognizes the four different types of Quotation/Citation format. Please use both footnotes and endnotes with the correct citation style.
(2) Please use the ‘Footnote’ function of the word processing program.
(3) Depending on the method, it is important to use the appropriate citation style
- Direct quotation: Double quotation mark (“ “) and extra space.
- Indirect quotation: Paraphrasing of the original author’s words including ideas.
2. Have you excluded the sources?
If you are checking some papers that had already been published, the similarity score could be high. You may check the correct similarity score with the source details setting. Please click the URL below.
3. Still recognized as plagiarism even though it was correctly quoted/cited?
You may have quoted a long paragraph, but only the last sentence may be recognized as a quotation or citation.
Copy Killer service recognizes a paragraph as a source, even if only the quotation or citation is referenced in the last sentence of the paragraph.
However, if you change the line spacing by pressing ‘Enter’, sentences become separate paragraphs and only the last paragraph is recognized as a source. Please do not change the line spacing.
